Pwople kept mentioning it in reguards to fic postings and a fan comic posting, over at Buffy Cross and Stake and Angel's Soul boards. They were my regular BUffy and Angel hangouts, now I still visit but not regularly anymore.

01. Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
02. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
03. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
04. Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
05. Hardcopy or audiobooks?
06. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
07. If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? Write it down to look it up later? Just try to infer what it means from the rest of the sentence, and keep going?
08. What are you currently reading?
09. What is the last book you bought?
10. Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can read more than one at a time?
11. Do you like re-reading books?
12. Picture of your bookshelf...
Sometimes. But I'd rather not eat in the living room if I can avoid it. And I do have books I still find crumbs in lol
Not usually
Bookmark but I'll dog ear if I have no mark.
Both
Hard copy, usually. But the type of audiobooks with actors and sound FX are fun.
End of the chapter
I don't often find unfamiliar words but if I can't infer it, I'll look it up.
About five Roswell paperbacks, one Animorphs book a week for the reread, Marley and Me, and a couple in a series called Career Diaries. Oh and a Titanic novel. But I go one or two at a time, not all at once lol. I always have a ton from work at the library though.
I think it was a bunch at the used book shop (it closed, waaaah)...some old sci-fi, some CSI and CSI Miami.
I always have several going at once it seems
Definately! But as my budget is limited, I love the library too. And working in one lets me occasionally get my hands on weeded ones that I'm fond of. |
|
Bascially that it was when I was into the main period of Buffy/Angel obsession when I joined. I'd like a new more multipurpose one but can't pay for it and am too lazy to get a new account lol.

|
Sunnydale, baby :) I'd love to be a Scooby lol
Or wherever the Animorphs went if they made it to high school before the books ended.

I am now laptop girl hehe :) A Dell Inspiron 1420. I love wireless and being able to go on anywhere in the house. The keyboard is taking some adjusting to but not being slow is awesome. I'm trying to decide though whether or not to download my bookmarks and such from my old computer via Windows Easy Transfer. I use the bookmarks at times but not all the time. I don't care about the cookies much. |

Mac and Stella on CSI New York. The writers are making me crazy not doing it lolol. Lynn will testify to that one.
Booth and Bones on Bones are a close second. Oh yes and Cath/Nick on CSI LV, Lynn would smack me if I didn't mention them lol

I'm late but still answering.
This one is really difficult lol. On one hand I'd love to be one of the Animorphs characters and have that power to become different animals. Probably either Tobias although I'm not sure about being stuck as a bird, albeit a morphing one, or Cassie, I love the whole vet parents/wildlife rehab thing.
But I'd also love to be a character in the Dinotopia series, the original books...although since my animal alter ego is a Quetzalcoatlus (flying reptile) anyway it's hard to pick the animal or the rider lol.
I'd love to have a way to cross them, a morph-capable person who comes to the island and is able to get permission from some of the dinos to morph them. lol.

| » Writer's Block: Being Another Creature |
I usually ignore these but I loved this one. I don't think I could pick just one lol...big cat (like panther or tiger),orca,horse,wolf...if I had to make one choice it'd be bald eagle, I've always wanted to fly. Or if extinct animals count, Quetzalcoatlus, like my icon.
If I had my preference I'd be an Animorph, like in the book series. I know it's classed as a kids' series but I'm addicted lol. It's about five teens who get the power to morph into different animals and wind up fighting a war against a race of alien slugs that are taking over people's bodies. Anyway then I could morph and morph back and do different animals at different times.

| » Comcast and appeals |
I hope my net is fixed for good, it started acting up last night but was fixed when I got home from work. I hope it was Comcast and not the computers themselves.
Friday is my bus hearing; it was supposed to be last week but there was a ride mix up. I wouldn't be so anxious to keep the paratransit if the regular bus went to Lynwood but it doesn't, and I'm really uncertain how I'd do with bus schedules. I've taken one leg trips but not complex multileg transfer trips.
Also mad at the state government for not giving more funding grrrrr!
I don't know if I talked about my birthday, which was Aug 23, or not. I got to go see the CSI exhibit...it was nice though I wish there had been a way to do all three crime scenes. Afterward we were going to go out to eat but a nasty storm started partway to Red Lobster and we had to turn back. The area was pounded with hurricane force winds that night and we saw a transformer blow and the grass catch fire. Apparently downed lines and such were quite common although our power only flickered. A building had part of its roof torn off and the lady who does my eyebrows got a pole dropped on her car while at the salon though she drove it home after the pole was removed. I know they call Chicago the windy city but that's icky even for us.

| » Power musings |
Anyone else think people in the developed world have gone soft in a way? Our ancestors did fine with no electricity for a long time, and now a little power outage makes us-me included-nuts. We had a small one last night that brought on these thoughts lol Now I'm tired cause the noise of things going off woke me up, I went back to sleep for a while and then got woke up when things came on again.
Even just computers; as long as they work fine you're okay, but when they go down you're screwed big time. Happened last week at the library; checkout could be done by hand and I could shelve and straighten and stuff but nothing else computer related really worked properly :(
I think we're gonna be in a heap of trouble if something ever takes out our electrictity and all our tech gadgets no longer work lol
Lately I've been looking around and never realized just how many blogs and networks and whatever are out there. I have a GreatestJournal and a JournalFen (which I need to update) besides my LJ, and MySpace and FaceBook...plus lately some niche ones like some pet sites and religious sites.
Maybe I just have a groups addiction, it's those I often like the most. I'm in them at most every place I'm at lol...plus my Yahoogroups. And no i don't keep up with them all, I really can't. I visit many of them a few times a month maybe rather than every day.
waaaaah I liked the cool weather and now it's hot again :(

| » Carnival... |
The village here had a carnival this weekend...not sure why they were celebrating the stone quarry or what about but it was called QuarryBlast and was right on the rim of the quarry...well just outside the fencing that keeps people from falling in and all that obviously. They had good weather for it but it was sure darn hot. I'm glad I went yesterday because it was even hotter today.
I love riding the rides but those games are money suckers lol...to win the big prizes you either have to be really good at them or play more than one round and they are so out to get as much money off you as they can. I got a few small prizes
I think my favorite ride was CliffHanger, which is designed to give the impression of hang gliding even though it does take you in a circle like the others. Arabian Nights, which had a long bench seat with roller coaster restraints and went around in an up and down circle, was also fun. Those two I rode three times lol. Zero G should be called Several G...did not go on it again because it flattened me too much and it wasn't easy to breathe. The mini-coaster (Dragon Coaster I think)was okay but I got banged around and now have a bruise, despite the operator wrapping and positioning a big towel to try and help me out. The scrambler was pretty fun too. Most of the rest were kiddie rides and a carousel...did that once.
I loved the petting zoo though I kinda felt bad for the animals in the heat. They did have lots of water and spray bottles to mist them down though, and two shelters for them to go under. There were two llamas, a calf, sheep, goats, two baby potbelly pigs, chickens, ducks and a rabbit. And those goats are relentless if you get a food cup lol...feed them and they mob you and keep following you for more. I even had one with front hooves up on my belly at one point.
Anyway when I finally got home I was exhausted from walking over and then walking around, but fortunately my sunburn is only mild. I forgot to ask where the sunblock was :( It's not painful though and it's only lightly red.
This afternoon me,my little cousins and the neighbor girl who's the same age as the older one, five, went in the neighbor's pool...it's not a big fancy one, just one of those smallish ones with the inflatable top but at least it's filtered and not a wading pool lol. Though I don't know how good that filter is, I still had stuff all over afterward...had to jump in the shower to clean off lol But it was still kinda fun and easy to stay cool. We're going to get one of our own sometime soon. The dogs should stay away because despite being half lab they aren't terribly fond of water and they have their own wading pool to splash in. Maybe that'll keep them from trying to use teeth or claws on it lol

I'm on my own computer now, it's not brand new, like 9yrs old actually but runs acceptablly with XP installed...though not with two programs going at once, that slows it down terribly. It *is* better not having to compete for the other one. But are all older models this noisy? lol
I think I got that norovirus or norwalk or whatever's going around on Sunday...felt awful Sunday night but was better Mon morning and today.
it's darn COLD!!! been snowing a lot the past few days and the temps are dropping. Ick.

| » The machines are revolting |
This week has been interesting at work. Wednesday the computers, or rather the internet connections, both the patron ones and the library's systems were speeding up, slowing down, stopping...we think the lines were wet. The printer was also acting up, printing gibberish. The copier jammed for a bit as well. We copy the covers of some magazines and put the actual items behind teh counter; the patrons having to ask for them is supposed to cut back on stealing. Anyway, I and another lady were trying to get the copier working right and even though the paper appeared in right, it jammed anyway. And the unjamming process-mostly opening lots of doors-is complicated.
Things are mostly fixed now except the card catalog; it's going to need a whole new PC.
On the stealing subject, I think it's getting worse. They try to watch the kids they know steal books and after a while there's some process for banning them I think, but still it's hard to catch them. And some have been swiping magazines still in the binders we put them in. It's mostly the Young Adult ones too, the kids again...other than Star and possibly Sports Illustrated going missing a couple of times in adult. We're going to have to get a security system to go along with the new security guard....expensive but unfortuantely a necessity. The books aren't actually stolen as often as the magazines...a couple of the kids swipe the ones their parents don't want them checking out...there's this "urban fiction" genre that's definately adult stuff for one...it's kinda hiphop and the hood and homies and all that and they have a lot of sex...obviously the parents don't want the kids reading them, and the kids steal them so they can read them anyway. The magazines are what really irks me because it keeps happening all the time.
They have managed to cut down on the loud talking on the computers...enforcing the "one kid per PC" rule and changing the way computers are reserved has helped a lot.
Christmas party's tommorow, or really, tonight. Nothing fancy, just a potluck and a grab bag.

I'll be very glad when the new library's built, this one leaks. The books are usually okay but the carpet gets wet in a lot of places. And papers have to be watched lol.

| » Murphy's Law |
I think work today was an example of Murphy's Law in action. Everyhting was broken in the morning. The check in/check out system...the patron computers were being updated so they weren't really broke. The kids' read-a-long system is down, the computer card catalog computer is down...briefly there was a problem with the patron printer. The check-in/out thing was fixed by just after I clocked in, and the patron computers were done updating pretty much. But the kids thing and card catalog are still out. Last week the public copier broke but it's fixed, I think.
I hope tomorrow's better.
